17th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

:hit7 out of 11 are roos! Noooooo!

Also if you accidentally cross a gray/silver? Silkie over a Silver Deathlayer you get this adorableness.

Oh my, how cute!

Well, at least you'll have adorable roosters to try rehome, unless you're putting them in the freezer. I usually don't have too much trouble with getting rid of my extra silkie roosters.

Only 1 is a silkie. The rest are EE mixes so Freezer camp unless one is spectacular.

Final tally 6 Whiting true blue, 1 fibro mix and we did finally get 1 moss egger.....8/20 set, so not great results.
I reached out to the person I got the eggs from about the moss eggers, she offered new eggs, but I really am not in a spot timing wise to do another hatch right now so maybe at the end of summer. We dont really 'need' more chicks anyway

That's what I said 3 batches ago  , then my first batch was old enough (9 weeks) to see that my male/female ratio wasn't looking good so I set more.

Awe, they are darling!!

It's so fun to hatch chicks from others though as they're a nice surprise compared to our own usuals.

Please reply to your message with your total so we have that record of it and don't make any mistakes on the count. Thank you!

How many days had these been set when you candled them? It sounds like about a week?

Anything you're not sure about, I'd mark it with a pencil and leave it in the incubator another week and candle again. You should be seeing a dark spot with veins. A dark spot with no veins is most likely one that started and died. The next time you candle, they should be very active, and you'll see movement.
I candled at day 10. Thanks for letting me know about the veins and dark spots.

All 3 broodies are still going strong. They're coming up on their 2nd week of being broody, approximately.

All 3 have been tolerant of me checking on them and their eggs. I hope this trend continues once their chicks hatch and I can get some good pictures of broodies with chicks. :love

Did any of you set shipped eggs? If so, you should enter the Farthest Shipped Eggs! contest.
Does it get multiplied if I ordered multiple batches from the same seller? :D
