What age is this Roo?

I was told that this barred rock rooster is 18 months old. However, his nails are very long. The hen beside him is also said to be 18 months. These chickens were in very rough shape when I got them, and didn't have access to outside. What do you think?

That's a year and a half...they might be a bit older, but could have claws and spurs that long. I keep claws nipped off a bit, with a dog nail clipper, so hens feathers are not damaged on their backs and they keep nice sraight toes.

He could be anywhere from 1 year to 5. It is a very hard task to tell the age of an individual chicken... There are some ways... My guess is that your handsome BR is 3 years. Would that be reasonable for when/who you got him from?

Thanks for the feedback. The previous owner said she got them as fresh chicks in April/May, 2016. I thought I would ask on here though, as I'm not sure how much I can trust. The chickens are in very rough shape. We lost one last night.
