Although no one fights these chickens any more (and that subject is taboo here on BYC) I believe the dubbing was done to decrease injuries when the two roos 'interacted' with one another. The practice has persisted much like cropping dogs ears. There may be an advantage to the dubbing if you live in a very cold climate and very large combs will get frost-bitten. Removing the comb is pro-active.OH!

Although...That explains why when I Google Cele Old English Bantam I find what looks like him but in more of a Hen form.
