What am I doing wrong???

Mrs. K :

The older neighbor (more experienced with chickens) said when their legs turn yellow too. Then you are getting close. Hang in there!

I have never heard of the leg color changing before. It must be a myth. There are breeds that have black legs and breeds with green legs (which I have and their legs did not turn yellow). Perhaps that is only true with certain breeds but not all. Combs and wattles getting redder is what I have read that means they are getting ready to lay.

I guess that I shouldn't have been complaining about when they would start laying because now they are laying machines!!! I am averaging about 4 eggs a day from 5 hens. My 2 dominiques and my partridge chantecler lay every day and my 2 ameraucaunas lay every other day (one one day and the other the next)! We are getting about 2 and a half dozen a week from 5 hens!! It's great!!

Bravo!

I wish mine were laying machines. We've had a massive decrease in laying from lack of daylight but we've decided not use artificial lighting.
