What Am I Doing Wrong?????

these babies are 3 weeks old! i ordered them from welp hatchery and it seems as one is either a late bloomer or has health issues.... they are being fed a chick starter from TSC their water and food is changed daily as well as the sawdust in the brooder... any advice this is the first chick i have had to be with fluff and no feathers at 3 weeks!!!

i hatch out some blue bared rocks this year from halo and had one that looks like a bantam. The other 2 is just normal looking hens. So i don't know.

I had one hatch in September that ran around with all the rest but stopped growing at 5 days and died at 8 or 10 days old.
Years ago we had a normal appearing baby goat go into a sudden decline at 2 months of age; the vet said his heart was the size of a walnut (instead of an orange, I think) and was amazed he'd lived that long. I'm thinking the chick had a similar issue. I hope yours is just petite. Give 'her' lots of love and keep us posted.

I wouldn't say you are doing anything wrong - "runts" happen in nature. He's CUTE by the way!!!

Some of them just fail to thrive. I think they just failed to develop their insides properly and their really isn't anything we can do. I have lost several that have failed to thrive. I just had a little Showgirl die last night. It was the same size as it was when it was born over a week ago.

It's usually nothing that we have done wrong, it just happens.

i hope he lives hes my little brothers favorite but idk he eats and drinks fine acts like the rest just not developing as fast i hope he grows soon... thanks everyone for the responses

Weird! We've got a goat kid born this spring who is the same way...she's half the size of the other kids born at the same time. The poor thing went and got herself pregnant too, so she will be delivering at 7 months old!

I hope your little chicken does ok, it's sad to lose them.

I had a baby cochin that was VERY slow to develope. I thought he was going to pass away since he was not growing or maturing. She finally caught up at about 6 months, so there is hope. I did feed her a lot more boiled egg yolks in the begining. Good luck!
