What am I missing?

I try to remember to pick up one. I have a heat lamp, was just avoiding using it after reading the horror stories of things catching fire.

A heat lamp is good to have as a backup just in case you need it. I got my chicks a day earlier than expected, and my heating pad wasn't set up yet. My heat lamp bought me time to get things set up.

If you didn't request it they shouldn't be! If you have any trouble finding the Corid check the cattle section. Good luck with your chicks!
Unless you make a ramp the chicks are going to have a hard time jumping up on that two by four. Also you pretty much have a duck set up for chicks. Chicks are really not that messy. the hardware cloth I think could pose additional problems for their little feet. I would just remove that whole set up for the feed and water and just put the feed and water on the bedding. Actually just cut out a small 2 x 4 and place the water /feed on it so that they don't get their Pine shavings in the water or feed!

I got 16 baby pullets now. And they're not nearly as messy as three ducks.

Overall great job I'm interested to see what you get! I really like the idea of a mystery package!!
Thanks for responding. The bedding will be the height of the platform.(just haven't put it in yet) I'll keep an eye out to see if there's any issues with them walking on the HC. The idea was to have a tray under the food/water to help with cleaning.

Seriously, what kitchen does not have sugar, salt and baking soda? I get more peace of mind by saving my pennies, and using what I have instead of buying something which is not really needed. But, every person has their own priorities about how they will spend their money, and what they consider to be an appropriate cost of convenience.
The lyte recipe is good advice. There are pros and cons to both making and purchasing. However being able to do both is best:D. I'm not against purchasing some, but being able to make it when the store isn't available is a great option. Thanks:thumbsup
