What animal is this

Crystal, if you can, have someone examine the body and see if the rooster's body looks like it was mouthed by a dog or if the head was just removed. if the dogs had done it they should have mouthed the bird some and then chewed off the head. another predator would have just torn off or bitten the head off. (sorry to sound so graphic)

also, was the door pushed in like a dog squeezed thru it or was it like pushed in like opened and pushed in. and what kind of latching mechanism is on it b/c coons can open latches and they are really strong.

i can have a picture taken of the rooster and post it
the problem is that i can not look
also it would be hard to tell if it was plucked because it was still raw from being attacked a couple of months ago

my husband is going to take a picture of the rooster
after he does and post it i have to start a new thread after you look at it because i cant hear about it
i have a very weak stomach
i am in shock
i am being told by my groundskeeper and my husband that they think that my lab did it
a couple of months ago he got this same rooster but didnt kill it she just shook it, my lab is a 7 year old fat very fat lazy dog, but got this rooster before
if this is the case i have to put my dog down
my neighbors dog was found on his property and it wasnt missing after all

I don't think a ;ab would do that. is there any other damage done to the rooster?

It may have been a weasel. they can get through tiny spaces and into a chicken coop. They usually take the head off and drink the blood.

I hope you catch the culprit who did it!

A raccoon will take the head off and leave the rest.
A dog will just play with it until it is dead.

I am sorry about your roo.

PS When did you move back from Florida? Recently?

you dont have to put your lab down thats is what they are BRED to do. a lab is a bird dog. Obviously you live comfortably (no judgement) if you have a groundskeeper. make a nice big predator proof run (hot wire is a good idea) and dont let them free range when not supervised. Sorry about your roo. I have had to get hot wire and iprove my pens due to a coon as well.

terie, i am moving back to florida
i was here in for about 12 years
i left florida about 14 years ago and moved to New york, I lived there for a year and a half and was told that i needed to move to Los Angeles where my music would be appreciated
im moving back this month

im not going to put my dog down i was mad at her
but i really dont believe that she did this
she is a lazy fat dog that takes 5 minutes to get up when i call her
she did however play with the rooster and tore the feathers off of him a couple of months ago
that is why the rooster was a lone in the single pen that i use to allow my hens recover after being bred
i make terrible snap decisions

so wait I am sorry it was in the pen or out when it was attacked? cause that changes a lot if it was penned most likely something other than the dog, but running around, well lets say my 11 year old Husky took out 2 birds the second I turned my back on her for 5 minutes so even the lazy ones cant resist a tasty chicken.

i have a caged dog run that is about 6 feet high and 4 feet wide maybe 5 feet long or so
that I put my hens in that need to recuperate after being bred so they dont get to bald and raw
None of my birds free range
what ever did this spent a lot of time on that door
the door was shoved in at the bottom
if my fat dog did it she would not of been able to get out
