I used to breed hedgehogs too. My BF brought me home a pregnant female for my birthday and she had ber babies like a week later. I guess that time was just lucky because she never let any of the others live again. But I did breed other hedgehogs for a few years and I sold them for $100 a piece. Of course, they took some work, but they didn't eat much. They need a decent sized cage, mine were all in 3x3 wire cages that took up a lot of room. And I couldn't ever house them all together. Some were OK with each other and others wanted privacy.

I sold all the breeders after a few years and just kept my first mama. Her name was Easter. I had her for over 5 years and she was like 3 when I got her. So she lived a good long life.

I used to have a breeding pair of doves and they woul hatch two chicks out everytime and we would trade them for feed and it would last them until we had two more grown

ive been thinking of breeding cortunix (sp?) quail since they are cheap to feed cause you can raise mealworms nd give them those ever day so they dont eat much and apparently the breed fast cause they mature so quickly. and i have this feed store near me that has a sign saying they need some quail to sell so if i can get them set up soon ill be able to start selling to them sooon .. aswell as eggs on ebay etc. but still just an idea havent taken any action on it yet :p

Its the pure bred Araucana thats sought after. People have EEs thinking they're pure bred Araucana. When they find out they have EE mutts they want the real thing.

Honestly if you want to breed something for profit I would go with rats or mice. In addition to pet stores buying them to resale as pets, they are also a food source for snakes and such. The suckers breed fast, breed lots, and their food and set up isn't expensive.

Just my opinion here

i have raised rats and mice there is no money in it. here the petstore only pays 50 cents a mouse and $2 a large rat, most times they have to many and can't take them. some stuff they will not buy from people because they only have certain breeders they buy from. i've made the most from selling hatching eggs for chickens they more than cover everything i put into them but that depends on the stock u have and what u charge for them.

i've raised buttons and coturnix(sp) quail. noone wants buttons here never sold a one i had to give them away. the others everyone wanted the eggs, meat and breeders so i agree that's a good one. worms is a good one to but ya have to watch that. our dept of ag took over that part and regulate that here in pa now so check for laws on that just incase.

i have done excellent with bunnies, cockatiels and pigeons petstores almost always take them but tiels they want unweened in the nest so they can hand tame them and don't pay much for them. i won't sell them like that i'm an experienced handrearer i'll pull them at a week old but i handfeed till weened and i sell outright. i'd never sell a baby that young to anyone that was not weened. here they pay mabe 10 for them then some sell for $180 a piece they get the fancy mutations and under pay the breeder cause to young to tell color on. these r all good ones but u make more selling as a breeder than u do selling to the pet store. reptiles is a good one too.

love those hedge hogs!!!!
