What are best layers?

My family is getting chickens for the first time soon and we have been wondering what are the best chickens to get? We want chickens that lay alot and have good behavior.
My best layers are my Easter eggers and my ISA browns, also the queens, Rhode Island reds. Rhode Island reds usually have an excellent temperament, along with Easter eggers, isa browns are sweet to people but sassy with other hens. Orpingtons are great too!

Thank you so much! I've been a little overwhelmed by decided what are the best chicken breed to get!

What are your goals? High egg production over time, or high production for the first 2-3 years and then a rapid decline?
I'm trying to make a small profit off of them so like high production for most of there life. I'm doing it for a SAE project. I'm trying to find the best layers with like the longest period of production and good attitudes. Lifespan doesn't really matter that much to me and neither does color of eggs or chicken. I'm gonna be a first time chicken owner too. So I'm learning about alot of stuff about chickens right now.

I'd say go with leghorns. ISA brown will give you really high production for two years or so and then stop. Leghorns are more stable and with a little extra calcium supplementation after 2-3 years I've found them to be great at long term production as well. You could also look into possible dual purpose birds so maybe a Wyandotte or a light sussex

Thank you!
Yes I forgot about leghorns!! I have a 2 year old that still lays daily eggs, and she’s amazing. Just note that leghorns are a bit more flighty then other chickens and can jump fences WAY easier. But I love my fern!

I LOVE leghorns, they are tolerable, and are REALLY good egg layers. Rhode Island Reds are also AWESOME, as well as Sussex. I have also heard that Red Stars are good egg layers, I have never owned any though, so I'm not completely sure.

I love leghorns and RIRs too! My white leghorn is one of my favorites but she’s always so dirty 😂
