I was informed after picking 12 chicks and ending up 5 hens that if they were all hatched on or about the same day, the larger healthier looking ones are usually male. So that is the last time I use that method. This year I'll pick the scrawny tiny shy ones.
I sure hope so! ALL 8 of my chicks are play fighting and charging each other. I hoped a FEW of them to be hens

I have 18 chicks that are 10 and 13 days old. Today I was video taping them playing when my cat walked by. Two of them stood straight up in a guarding rooster stance while the rest ran away. I was pretty surprised to see that at such a young age.
