What are duck like?

Are they dirty as I have heard they are? I was wondering what they are like? What do you guys raise them for? Can you tell me some basic stuff about keeping ducks? Thanks in advance!

Oh yeah they are frekin messy as babies ! Especially babies!!!! i raise mine as pets but I'm going to have to start selling their eggs


Basics~*`:

Baby ducks cannot have regular chick feed they need non-medicated food, and ( this is just me) baby ducks should not be placed in wood shavings.

Ducks can be very loud ( except muscovies) ducks are also great borders because of the humidity they give to the nest. ( especially muscovies)

Ducks are a hand full!

they need bathing water and clean drinking water at all times except for babies just a peanut butter top is fine for them to drink out of for the first week or two

They always need clean and dry beading even though they get it messed up every few days

Ducks need to free range at least a few hours a day!

Ducks at last are very loving and will run up to you and forcefully make you pet them!

Ok! Well tell me: what do you feed your ducks? Can they eat worms? Can they eat insects?

Yes, they are messy. But if you manage it properly, it becomes pretty easy to care for them. They are fun, funny, cute and loaded with personality. Duck ownership is not for everyone. They are not just animals you can throw in a pen and forget, they need as much care as any pet, although it is a different type of care.

They can eat insects. They are great at keeping properties bug population down. But they also need a balanced diet of good quality, fresh pellets. I also feed chopped veggies, peas (as a treat), and I add cracked corn in winter. I do that because I am in a cold area. And, of course, they need water, and lots of it, clean and fresh too.

They need a predator proof area, and that is an area that you don't want to skimp on.

So, do some homework and reading and come to the wonderful world of duck parenting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've raised a variety of ducks over the years but for the most part they've all been quite messy. The noise level wasn't that bad in my opinion but I actually enjoyed their noises.
I usually feed Flock Raiser in the beginning with the addition of Niacin supplements. When they are older I add in access to oyster shells.
I have a lot of predators in my areas so I've always kept them in large enclosures. They do occasionally free range when I'm out there with them.
