what are feathered foot needs

Wow,you're lucky then. Those faverolles of mine are constantly snapping blood feathers on their feet. I've had to work a couple out for them so they wouldn't limp.
That is strange. Weren't yours some of those fancy show quality ones from MPC? I've kept all kinds of feathered footed breeds and never saw a single problem with their feet, others have more trouble, so I can only guess the environment plays a big role in it too.

The main thing for feather feet is they like to harbor mites. Yum. Drives me up a wall

Also if you want to show them it's very hard to keep them from breaking off.
I haven't had mites in the feet feathers either, I know I keep repeating myself, but I wonder why my birds are fine, but I'm certainly not complaining.

I have never done anything "special" or different for my Bantam Cochin and she is fully featherd and has lived both in Oklahoma and north florida. Completely free ranged during the day(until the past few weeks the hawks are around like crazy right now) with all the other standered size chickens and some other bantams and have had no problems at all.
Hope all the information from everyone helps!!

Yep,mine are supposedly fancy show quality lol! The feet feathers though are getting very thick and long especially on the girls. They get to wander the whole day so there's no telling what they're doing to their feet. Seriously thinking about chicken shoes.:)

It could be where you live. The area I live in has a lot of scaly mites and the feather leg birds seem to be more apt to catch them first.

I have cochin and silkies that live outdoors at a family member's home as well as my indoor kids, and in the past I've had many many chickens and I've noticed the feather feet do seem to attract them faster- probably because it gives the mites someplace to hide.

Should i sprinkle de dust around coop and inside it plus around my yard?i know sevin dust is way too strong even to do in my grass area, but would it be okay to do far away from coop and avoid their coop and roosting areas ?
