Hi. I have a call duck and she hasn't started laying yet. I got her last year at an auction, so I don't know her age. She had her feathers when we got her. Her mate is supposedly a black east indie. Are there any signs to look for for the first egg?

I don't know the answer, but I've been wondering the same thing so hopefully somebody will chime in. I have a female call duckling and I'm wondering when and how often I'll have to start feeding her layer food.

The next spring after they are hatched is when they lay. So any call ducks hatched this year will lay next next spring. Any call ducks hatched last year would have laid this spring. They are seasonal, and won't lay year round.

Great, thanks! I'm glad I won't have to worry about changing her food for quite a while.

I think I got her in August of 2011 at an auction. She had all of her feathers. She still hasn't layed an egg yet. I'm a little worried. Is she egg bound?

Maybe she was hatched in March of 2011??? I don't know. Can anyone tell the age by a picture? She has gotten bigger since I got her and now her head is bald from mating. Any clue? Will she lay in the summer?

We feed them scratch. Just about to start layer. I should've started with layer earlier though. Is this why she isn't laying?

scratch is one of the worst things you can feed ducks.
too much corn
you need to be feeding them multi flock.
or at the very least layer pellets.
but not scratch,.
