What are the odds this auction is for real?

Go with your gut! If you are doubting the seller or the particular auction, then you're probably better off staying away from it. I'm not a perfect speller or anything, but I do use it in determining if I want to deal with someone. We all make mistakes, no matter how many times we proof it. But misspelling the breed of the bird should be a big no-no! If anything, get that one thing right. Very disturbing that the seller is stealing a photo that belongs to someone else. That is very, very wrong! Personally, I'd stay away from it.

First of all, the photo used in the ebay listing has been stolen from an English breeder

That is the one thing about ebay listing which really, really annoy me!

If I'm after eggs of a breed I want to show, I always ask for independent photos of the parent stock, if the seller shows, what they have won, are they a member of the breed society etc - that usually sorts the wheat form the chaff... but what about unsuspecting buyers? I suppose they can always claim caveat emptor but it still really annoys me!

These are auctions like that I would avoid, no matter how bad you want one..

Avoid breeders that: like that example of the auction, its BAD!
Uses other pictures other than their own.
Misspelled the breed.
Misspelled the color (Lemmon) is not a color or fruit....LEMON is. Cuchkoo is not a name for pattern.
Misspelled the state...Lorida is not a state.
Too many "corrections", you can still edit the information on the auction.
Said that he made corrections of the photo, but no photo credits........still uses someone else's pictures. I can see making the mistake once but twice, I don't think so!

I can not believe those people that bidon this auction would spend that much on those eggs from a breeder that just do just that. Yes, I know it's irratating but I do misspell. Yes it would scream BEWARE! If you want to take that chance, go ahead.

There has been several Orpington breeders working on the Buff Orpington x Barred Rock crosses, pay attention to the feather pattern and leg colors and conformation, you can tell sometimes if it has been crossed recently. Ask alot of questions and if you get the run around . inconsisencies in their stories how this breed came about, or "I don't know", turn around and walk away. for people that wanting to buy these kind of Orpingtons, ASK and read up about them before you go out and look for these.

I thought you'd either have to crack it and check for the bullseye or incubate it to check it? But what do I know?

I contacted the seller last week about "the manuel checking of all eggs"......lets just say I won't be bidding on any of their auctions.

=====

DETAILS, please!

2x and I saw the rest of his auctions, he still uses the UK photographs.

So the seller responded to my questions this morning.

They purchased their Lemon Cuckoos from Greenfire...

Their computer crashed so they have no way to give me photos of their original birds...

No comment from the seller on why they are using "borrowed" photos for all of their auctions...

Will I be bidding? Probably not.

The auction ended at 162.50 with 19.95 for shipping. It would be really interesting to find out how many chicks the winner gets in 3 weeks. I hope they get 6 nice, fat little Orp babies.

Um, that IS how you spell Orpington. I'm not disputing everything else about this auction that stinks like last weeks kippers, but about the only thing they did get right was the spelling of the breed. Why do so many people spell it with an H in it. It's not Orphington, it's Orpington.

I'm just seeing this thread, but I saw that auction as well. I requested additional pictures to be sent to my email and I never got them. This same "breeder" is using pictures "found" online or Ebay stock photos to represent their flock. Bad news.

They had cuckoo and lemon spelled incorrectly at one point.
