I have kept my quail for over 2 years, and I noticed that some seemingly innocent objects put her in absolute terror. Do your quails also have those phobias? I think it's instinctual.

1. Long mop stick: when it's put upright against a wall, she doesn't notice it, but when it's on the floor she flies away and hides. -> probably because it looks like a snake?

2. Hula hoop-> it must also look like an anaconda or something toher eyes.

3. Humans dressed entirely in black: strangely she doesn't really mind when either the shirt or the pants is black. She tries to aggressively peck at me and avoids me when I am in all black attire. ->natural alarm against ravens?

4. My sweater: this one's tricky. It's bulky, wooly, and has haphazard geometrical-ish patterns ranging from beige and orange to brown shades. Maybe it reminds her instincts of some predator.

our quail get scared when we put a stick in their cage and they're also scared of huge bugs, large amounts of ants and some of them are scared of chickens.
Wow then I have a very brave quail, at least in the bug league, because my quail tried to eat huge moths and spiders! Quails are so skittish creatures yet they are always curious which makes them cuter...

I don't have quail, but I have chickens. Talk about weird, my chickens are terrified of anything colored white. When a white car or truck comes down the road near the free range area they freak and run to the run and coop. White paint drop cloths and white feed bags are reason for total panic! I have no idea why, none. :D
Those birds! Always finding the reason to get afraid of! Guess it doesn't matter black or white.

I have a chicken who was terrified of spaghetti.
