This has nothing to do with chickens but I have the small black flying bugs & am desperately trying to find out what they are. They are only in one room of the house, my bedroom. The crazy thing is you never see them except if the bedroom light is left on at night. They do fly but as far as I know I've never been bitten by one. It also seems to be a year round thing & the windows are not open. They're hard to smash. The one in the pic is dead but it was hard to kill. If anyone has any idea what they are, how to get rid of them or why they would only be in one room I'd be forever grateful

It would help to know your general location.... Do they have a hard shell like a beetle?

Tried to do my usual search but INternet here is taking a dump.... I will do some digging when its back up.

But it looks to me like some sort of beetle that comes in with the feed...

dont know till I get the internet to work properly...

Southwestern kentucky. I guess they do have a slightly hard shell. It's really difficult to smash them.
They only come out at night & only if the bedroom light is left on. They're only in one room of the house as well. Im trying to find out what they are so I can figure out how to get rid of them. I can't figure out where they hide during the day & at night while the lights are off

your best bet is to grab one and put it in a jar and take it to a pest company... Or mail it to the entymology department at a local college.

If it had a longer abdomen I would say termite... but our termites are different here in southern California....

Termites kind of look like an ant but are longer and when they are swarming will have wings. But they are smooshable.

You might go through your cereal boxes and bags of flour and cereal like foods. Look for larva or shells. or beetles. That may be your source.
