what are these, please?

If you want to make sure you don't butcher future layers, give them some more time. Sooner or later they will give their gender away...

They are hens or pullets. There combs are too small for roos and they have no hackle or saddle feathers. If you got them as BSL they are pullets getting ready to lay for they lay earlier than any other breed. Firgure 3 to 4 weeks more.

Black rocks are pure black no red in them at all. Over in europe those called black rocks are our sex links and not pure bred real black rocks. A true pure black rock is all black and not common. Any other color in them is a major fault.

I disagree. They ARE males. They have a very masculine appearance. They are only 13 weeks old, so if they were hens, they combs and waddles would be much smaller.

As for breed, I would have to say they are mixes.

Barred rock over partridge rock yields a technically black - bleeding red - bird that is also referred to as black but is not pure for black.

The stock can be used to go to pure black but it takes work.

True black has no red, as was said.

Given that the OP stated the seller had both BSL and RIR it's easier to assume a mix.

Thanks everyone, but they just went to the freezer today. We thought about waiting but we just really had too many roos anyway. Like I said we are new to chicks and as happens alot we just got too many chicks. We only planned to keep maybe 24 hens and about 3 roos, [and we bought like 50] anyways, we got st. run when we bought and of course bought enough to allow for a few roos..........well we have ended up with at least 18-20 roos. That's even if these 2 were pullets! So some had to go. It was kinda hard but when we got the chicks we got them for meat and eggs, still when you are with them every day talking and petting them that's kinda tough.
