I just noticed my four-year old SLW Lilith has some weird black scales on the front of one of her legs. On close inspection, the black is slightly greenish around the edges. She seems to act and feel okay. Does anyone know what this is from? It's not easy trying to photograph (with no one to hold her) a hen who's built close to the ground. I had to pull the leg out from under her while juggling the camera. I hope you can make out the unusual scales.

She may have bruised her leg on something, causing blackish/greenish scales. Some chickens naturally have different colored scales on their legs, so this may be the reason too. As long as she acts normal, she's probably fine.

I was thinking bruising, too, but I've never seen leg mites, and was worried it might be the start of something more serious than bruising.

This is what is on the legs of a rescue chicken I recently took in! I'm new to this and have no idea if it is normal. I'm hoping its not a disease or something. Did you ever find out what it was?
