What are these two imposters?

Anyone can label anything as 'show stock'. It's so sad that the phrase is so over-used. I can admit that my attention is automatically caught when I see something labeled with SQ/SS...alot of the time it's just dishonest/ignorant people trying to sell off low quality birds or eggs. Just MHO.

And after taking a second look, I also have to agree that both are Polish mixes. I can understand why you'd be bummed out. But you're not alone.

Oh well, even if they aren't true Polish, they still are beautiful!!! Anything that is mixed is beautiful and interesting, IMO. :

I don't think they are Polish because they are too heavy-bodied for Polish type. They may be Spitz with something else mixed in though. They both have very full crests for being Spitz.

There are several things to keep in mind about "show quality". First, the only way you can be guaranteed to have show quality birds is to buy adult birds who have won at an APA/ABA judged show. Second, lines of birds that produce show quality stock also produce a majority of culls. This is why breeders hatch so many chicks to select only a small handful to keep for breeding. Third, the idea that all shows are the same is not correct. Although you may have a bird that places well at the "Katchahatchee County Fair and Fruit Pie Bake-Off" doesn't mean that it would even get a second look at a large show. If you are looking for show quality birds, you need to familarize yourself with what the breed you want is supposed to look like and compare it to photos of what the breeder is selling. Only then can you judge whether or not the birds even come close to what the standard says they should be. If you are buying eggs then you have nothing more than the breeder's claims to go on. Even from the best of lines you will be sure to get the bad along with the good and which ones you get to hatch is simply the luck of the draw.

my spitz's have the gold gene in them and will throw a gold chick about every 10th, but the top one is a cross and the bottom is a bad spitz or a cross with polish

I'm sure you are upset and have good reason to be. I am not saying that you deserved to get duped, however this is just one example of why it is important to know about the breeder you are getting eggs/birds from. Only knowing as much as possible about a person and their flock will help you from getting burnt.
