what are these yahoos doing?

I've seen all 4 of these red pullets and now Meathead the rooster, doing this. Is it just a way of cooling off? What i don't get though is that they will lay in the sun like this. My one real dark red henmakes me laugh, she will stretch her wing and leg out and flops on her side

With how hot it is here, southern California, I would have guessed the opposite since my other 8 hens are all squabbling over the best spots in the shade. It was at least 85 when I took this picture! Thanks!

I think that a hens' internal temp is about 105F so a little 85 degree Sunshine probably is cooling to them. The Earth that they're laying on certainly is.

I Know, Right?!?

Some of mine do that when it's hot out too, makes no sense but there you have it.
