"What are we?" - Ideal's Rare Breed Specials

Wait! Green Family Farms: Did I really see that in your other post that ALL your IDEAL chicks were dead by Sunday?

Yeah, I was so disappointed when I looked in the brooder box on Sunday morning. Ideal contacted me back and said that the vitamin/electrolyte solution I gave them was too concentrated and dehydrated the chicks. I used the recommended measure on the back of the packet, but they said it was too strong for chicks. Weird.

The good thing is that they are sending a new shipment this week. I know that this kind of stuff happens. I don't order chicks much, but this is the first time I've had a problem.

ETA: So, yeah, I'll have to figure out what breeds they sent again.

I have had high mortality rates from the one and only order that I made from Ideal. I'm not sure why but their birds don't seem to be as hardy. My local feed and seed used to order all of their chicks from them but told me they stopped due to the same reason.

By the way...any extra birds that you get from Ideal will all be roos. They threw 13 white leghorn roos in that same order and as fate would have it...all of my "free exotic chicks" i.e. roos.

lived and I had to find new homes for them. I love roos and usually have quite a few in my lots at any given time but I didn't like them adding that many to my order without asking. (especially since I never even ordered leghorns period)

I'm really sorry for your loss...I would disinfect my brooder and then repeat just to be safe. You sure don't want to lose anymore.

Good luck to you!
