What are y’all doing for the hurricane?

I have never been through an evacuation but have family and friends who had to bug out with Sandy. One family has only just moved back into their home. They lived about a half-mile down the coast from Sandy's ocean-going roller coaster. Some of the things they shared, along with some from friends who evacuated from wildfires are:

While you still have a few days, make an evacuation plan and set up what you need to make it happen. I won't pretend to know more than the experts about what to pack, so start with those lists, but my Sandy-friends advised :

Take LOTS of socks, underwear and an extra pair of sturdy shoes. You can wear strangers' donated pants and shirts, but you'll want your own undies ... and socks will be hard to come by.

Add chapstick to your emergency kit - it's more for afterwards, but it was hard to come by after Sandy and EVERYONE needed it when outside recovery work started.

For the animals:
Before you pack your vehicle, lay an extra fold-up kennel in the bottom, where it will take up less space. Your birds/cats/bunnies etc will need the extra room once you get to your destination. If not, SOMEONE will need it and it may mean being able to keep their pets.

In a pinch, pillowcase make decent catch nets and transport bags for chickens, cats and even some reptiles. They don't take up much space and the dark is soothing.

Take an animal first aid/emergency kit along with your own. Electrolytes and vitamins are smart addition, as there WILL be stress! Dry Pedialyte and Gatorade packets are easy to pack and keep almost indefinitely.

Make sure you have vet/vaccination records. Pictures are smart. too - even if it's just a phone snap as you load up.

Leg-band your birds, even if it's just with loose zip-ties and a permanent marker. You can even hit them with an identifying spot of Blu-Kote, or non-toxic spray paint - anything to quickly ID them as yours. They may end up in a communal flock, or transferred to another facility when space gets tight. And as well as we know our own birds, let's face it ... one terrified, confused white Silkie, ISA or RIR looks pretty much like all the others in a flock of strangers!

Good Luck to everyone in the path of Ian ... and whatever is still to come this year. You have people all over the world praying for your safety!

Both. I just wanted a open thread for everyone to share this plans. We are already out of water and Walmart is empty.
Personally, hoping for a day off work. For the chickens, I'll stop at the nursery tomorrow for pine straw to keep their feet out of the mud (last projection was 5-7" rain.

I see you are in Orlando, I think you should be ok. I dont think it will be to bad over there but i may be wrong. I'm on the gulf coast
Irma knocked my power out for a week.
