What are you baking now?

Oh, I messed up too and feel your pain! I always bake pies on a jelly roll pan lined with foil. Then if anything bakes over I can just lift the foil and throw away the gooey or burnt mess. HOWEVER, yesterday I forgot the foil. Sure enough it cooked over and burnt to the jelly roll pan. So I had a big mess to soak off of that pan today. Urgh! Have kicked myself a least 5 times.

Sorry about your oven.

ETA: Yes, I made a little 'branch of cherries' from the trimmings of the top crust . I always do that when I make fruit pies - if it's apples or peaches I just make them bigger (and make a crease for the peach-look). Thanks for noticing

One of the best kitchen aids that I have is this mat for the oven. I get them at Bed, Bath & Beyond if you have those in your area for $10.00. They are really GREAT and those burnt on whatever just wipe right off. Gosh I sound like a commercial. No seriously these work - I'm on my second one and the first lasted for 3+ years. The only thing is that my new one is light tan and shows some staining but it still saves the oven and having to soaks things for days!!

Had BYC withdrawals this past weekend since I took Friday off for a full 4 days off and had a billion projects and couldn't spend any time on the computer. Anyway, we are getting ready for a contractor to come in and build me an Art studio in part of our 1000 square foot detached shop that we have.

I don't have a "creative space" in the house that can be used so decided to put it out there. Don't like being removed from the house but I need to be creative other than in the kitchen!! You know the place I'm talking about where you can spread out and leave it!!

So in between moving all the junk around to make room I had my trusty kitchen timer with me at all times for a new bread that was raising. It was a Stilton Cheese Walnut Bread. Man what a savory bread! Really pretty too - one that you braid. If you like Blue Cheese flavor then this is a good one. We rated it a "9".

Also, made a banana cream pie for dessert tonight. Along with some yogurt, butter and canning of kidney beans.

Was a good weekend with a nice balance of work, fun and creativity.

P.S. Catching up on everyone's baking adventures over the past few days has made me hungry this afternoon!!

Thanks for the mulberry recipes

I have an everbearing mulberry in my backyard. I planted it for the birds, but I think they can spare enough for a pie

Or jam?

Of course, the "girls" have to have some too. They always follow me over to the tree, waiting expectantly for some treats

Got a pasture-raised chicken at my CSA yesterday which I'm planning on roasting in a bit. I also got a crazy amount of corn & cherry tomatoes, which I will sauté together as a side dish.
