What are you baking now?

It's way too hot here in PA today, but I really wanted fresh bread anyway. I'm slightly afraid to say this...but I think I like this recipe more than Gump bread.

Here's the link to where I found it. In the comments the author mentioned using 2 1/4 tsp of active dry yeast instead of the type for bread makers...which is what I did.

I've made Gumps bread bunches of time, maybe this one is just enough different that I realllllllllllly liked it. The butter I put on top probably helped.

I haven't forgotten about making the bread, I've just been held up, but I'm making it today.

We ordered a side of beef and they called yesterday and said it was ready for pickup so I had to clean out my freezer and rearrange everything to get the meat in. Then a bob cat killed one of my guineas...I heard all this noise outside so I went out to see what was going on and there standing in the big middle of my yard is a bob cat with one of my guineas in it's mouth. We have been having a really bad heat wave and I've been keeping the dogs in the house out of the heat. Of course the dogs walked out with me and when they saw the bob cat they took out after it. It dropped the guinea and ran. I figured what the heck the guinea was freshly killed, there was no sense in wasting it, so I picked it up and took it in the house, cleaned it and stuck it in the frig. So today we are having guinea gumbo, your rolls and fresh bread and butter pickles.

I'll let you know how the bread turns out.

This one is very moist, dark, and easy

2 C flour 2 C sugar 2 eggs
3/4 C cocoa 1 C milk
1 tsp baking powder 1/2 C oil
2 tsp baking soda 1 tsp vanilla
1 C boiling water (add last)

Mix all ingredients together. Add boiling water last. Batter will be very runny. Grease pan.
Bake at 350 deg until cake tester comes out clean, approx 1 hr. Makes a 13 X 9 pan.

If you want an awesome chocolate icing that's to die for, let me know!

A recipe for cake icing? Oh yes please! That's the BEST part! Thank you~

Edited to add:

Ooops my bad! I see you've posted the recipe already! I'm saving it~ thank you!

Tonight I am making a pineapple upside-down cake for a friend of mine at work. It's her grandfathers favorite and his birthday is Friday. It's cooling right now. It's a really rich recipe with buttermilk, 5 eggs, 1 1/2 cups of butter and vanilla pudding mix..... I'm going to flip it in about 45 minutes. I'll post a picture when it's done!

Thanks, I think I deserve a nice dinner out too. Only problem is we have to drive close to 50 miles to find a nice restaurant. Bummer!!

Your rolls were a big hit!! Mine didn't look like yours but they sure tasted good. We sliced them and ate them with the gumbo, we ate the whole pan. I'm going to make them again today to go with some venison back strap that I'm going to make for supper tonight. I'm sure as time goes by I'll figure out what I'm doing wrong and I'll get better at making them.

Those look great Betty.
If you notice in the picture I posted I have the parchment paper cut into strips, I do that with a pair of scissors right before I put them in the oven, so that I can make miniscule adjustments to keep the rolls from touching when they bake. This recipe divided into six will just barely make it on a half sheet pan. I made them for a long time into a more traditional baguette shape but I finally gave up on keeping them from touching.

My wife asked me once why it was ok for these breads to touch while they bake but if these other breads touch it puts you in a bad mood. We have only been married for 10 to 12 years, maybe 13, (I forget exactly) but you would think she would understand me by now.

Sandwich rolls are perfectly ok if they touch when they bake.
