You blow my mind that it even grows down here!!! Everyone I know here has tried and failed... my friend, my neighbor and my mother. All the plants just went flat, browned and died on 'em.

My grandmother when I lived in CT couldn't keep it under control!

I wish you were closer as strawberries and rhubarb are one of my absolute favorite flavor combos. I have a strawberry rhubarb bread recipe somewhere... and my a pie as well.

Out here in California we have really strict laws and I can only sell homemade stuff if it is made in a certified kitchen

We do have strict laws about what "side" you can go on at the Farmer's Market. If your produce has not been certified by the Ag Dept then you have to go in the "non-certified" side and people are less likely to buy from you regardless of your price. They also don't allow price fixing and you will see some people with lower prices, but I have not noticed that it improves their sales.

Good luck and it's wonderful that your are sharing your goods with the rest to help them become more sustainable.

What bums me out here is that there is no Ag certification for anything but Organic. So we just claim 'sustainable or natural' since none of us are certified organic to my knowledge. We have to find out the kitchen laws... but for now I can just claim I didn't make them in my kitchen. Its free to get licensed here, they just want to come out and make sure I have NO pets in the house and all fire safety is taken care of. Its pretty simple... and its free. I just a 'wait' until someone is available for my county.

I was amazed too that I got it to grow. I grew up in MI and it was everywhere!! These are just last years plants to boot. I had several make it and several not, so I replanted this year the ones that failed last year, so far they are thriving very well.

So far this year I have made rhubarb crisp that uses strawberry jello and also tried my hand at a strawberry rhubarb pie, turned out pretty good.

I have not heard of strawberry rhubarb bread, hmmm???

Not sure on home canning but I can't tell you how many times I have opened a jar of something from the store and there is some of the product on the underside of the lid....like pizza sause, processed chesses etc. We ate it and did not get sick. I don't think that means it is automatically bad.

This Fresh Rhubarb Cake is absolutely delicious. A little trouble to make, but worth it:

ETA: Forgot....finished Sugar Free Strawberry Jams yesterday. Leaving this morning to go pick sweet cherries. Not sure what all I'll do with them...jam for sure, and??? I still have sweet cherry pie filling and maraschino cherries I made last season. I could use more pie filling, but think I'll wait on it for the sour cherries.

I'll probably can some just plain sweet cherries. They'll come in handy over Winter for something.
