got 50lbs of gravenstien.. and probably another 50 coming in 5 days, nt sure what variety they are. AM gonna be busy!

The gravensteins did really well this year! I am still working on 88lbs of them (not counting the 48lbs I processed and froze 2 weeks ago)

I just grow my own lavender.

Trader Joe's sells a nice veggie wash to help with wax issues

Yes organic is best anyhow. I notice a huge difference in flavor and quality, and I know I am not getting certain types of pesticides.

I too have lavender but don't know how to harvest it for cooking. Can you tell me how?

The flowers are probably sweeter than the leaves. I never eat mine so I am not sure. I will look in up in my encyclopedia

I use a wash from environne... It removes pesticides and waxes and is all natural.

Never heard of gravenstiens...

its the type of apple they use for applesauce, not usually sold in stores. Its like a granny smith but sweeter.

Thanks for the information and book recommendations. I have been searching Craigslist periodically and estate sales but no luck.

I Thad to look up Gravensteins as I had no clue what they were. My sons had jujubes last year and decided they were one of his favorite fruits which is unfortunate as they are almost impossible to find. We had them in our csa baskets several times last year. He also loved the lemon or potato cucumbers which we did grow ourselves but I don't have room on our small city plot to put fruit trees in.

I hope to start canning with pickles and jalepeno squash relish as my entry so we shall see!

I know www.groworganic.com sells jujube trees. But it is possible they may have a variety fit for large containers, or you might be able to dwarf train them to containers, like bonzai are tamed to look small. It may be worth looking into. Jujubes and pawpaws are hard to find, mainly because they probably to not ship well. What I suggest is finding someone with a tree and asking if you can harvest. Some parks may have them too. Make it a family outing and such. Good luck

They were like a dry ish apple kind of? But not maely at all. Hard to describe i guess. I know they are in the date family but they just didn't taste like dates to me. I would just get them through the csa but she didn't do it this year. Maybe I could just check and see about harvesting some of the jujube. I'm afraid to plant any more trees in my backyard my dogs literally ate the bark and a chunk off one of them. Crazy mutts. I may need to just get those wire protectant things to go around the base if I do get more. They also are my entire cucumber plants. Leaves and root and everything. You'd think I didn't feed them with the way they eat my backyard up. But thankfully they are much better as they have mellowed and are trained.

Just don't feed them much onion. No grapes at all, and sparing on avocado as well.
