Oh does that sound good!

Our local orchard was hit with tennis ball sized hail the week prior to picking. Ugh. I supermarketed my apples this year too. pie filling is a must. I can extra filling goo too formturn overs and for an amazing cinnamon apple swirl in homemade ice cream or ice cream topping!


AM NOT a person that goes gaga over babies either. Luckily that only lasts a few years.

I will need that recipe. NY is the Apple state. I sometimes get the culls or mixed basket which makes great apple sauce.

Seems to me if mothers want their daughters to be married they'd teach them to be better cooks. My wife used to bring me dinner when I worked the night shift BEFORE we got married. Baked chicken and stuffing. Scalloped potatoes and pork chops. A man does his part and a woman does hers. Like a team. One guy throws the football another guy catches it. Can you see it? Both guys run down the field stop and look at each other? "I thought you were gonna pass it", "I thought you were". There goes the ball in the hands of the other team. I remember the pastor saying once. "If they're happy with the way things are keep you nose out". Speaking of folks marriage. That came cuz folks sticking their noses in other peoples marriage. I never can understand why women choose to work two jobs. One outside the home and one inside. Just go into a debate about women doing more housework than her husband even though they both work outside the home. Women spend more time taking care of the kids too. I can't see why a woman wants to put up with all the crp of working outside the home. The boss, stupid co-workers etc. etc. Part time maybe but full time? No way. Most of the guys I worked with at the PO I wouldn't want to be friends with. Use to be a woman sold eggs to get herself some money. I know things change but change isn't always good. DW has worked part time. I expect it's the only reason I'm alive. She used to work for the fabric store and spend it all on fabric to sew for the kids. My girls didn't wear to many store bought dresses when they were little. Being a good Mom is not easy.

I completely agree with you. My husband and I decided we didn't want some one else raising our kids for us as would have happened with them in day care. We had watched my sister take her son to day care. He was asleep when she dropped him off and asleep when she picked him up again. My mother worked full time my entire life. I got myself up, fed myself breakfast, and got myself to and from school and after school activities by myself. I did the laundry for everyone from the time I was 8 years old and cooked dinner most nights by myself. It has taken a long time as an adult to come to a positive relationship with my parents. I always felt completely alone and unwanted. Why bring a child into this world if you aren't going to take care of them? Stepping off my soap box.

I just canned 7 pints of apple pie filling.  Apples were $1 a pound in the store.  I moved here too late to get any good apples from the orchards.  I had to can some apple pie filling, the larder is empty and I gotta get ready for pudgy pies at the campsites. 
Once again, I used the brown sugar pie filling recipe that I got from this site.  It is so good and I like that it is not like the canned stuff from the store, which is what the Ball Book recipe tastes too close to.

I've been canning more sand plum jelly from my stash in the freezer. Not sure why but the ones I freeze are always more tasty as jelly then when I make it from fresh plums. Hmmm?

My mother worked full time my entire life. I got myself up, fed myself breakfast, and got myself to and from school and after school activities by myself. I always felt completely alone and unwanted. Why bring a child into this world if you aren't going to take care of them?

My wife had the same situation. Started working at 16. Though there are some differences.

Maybe it has something to do when you freeze then thaw them you release more juice which mixes better with the sugars you add to make the jelly. I am completly guessing here, as I have never made jelly from freezer produce. Nor do I know what sand plums are or how to use them. :/

That's a good thought. Sand plums are small wild plums that grow on thorny bushes and ripen in July and August along roadsides and in fields. They're also called Chickasaw plums or beach plums.

I was just dreaming about plums last night. We don't have any wild ones, though they were in my dreams. Strange I know. Freezing fruit is a good way to preserve it til you can get to it. Like in the winter time.
