What are you canning now?

There is a recipe some where on this thread around this time last year, for pickled green cherry tomatoes. It is a ferment pickle. Easy enough, and it will wait for you to find the time to can them... if there are any left by then. I only had 1/2 pint left to can the first time I did them. Big booted 'mice' nibbled them away.

A friend of mine gave me a quart of pickled green tomatoes..ummmm they are so good. Several times already I have gotten late at night and ate a couple just for a small snack that just hits the spot

I have rhubarb growing out of control... i didnt even harvest it this year i still had it left from last year in the freezer.. my aunt makes a punch with it

We have someone here that sells it. You might try that and make a buck or two. Anything is better than nothing, right?

We were given some pickles but I'm not big on pickled anything. Once had a pickled egg and it was like eating a rubber ball. I might have eaten a rubber ball once, I can't remember.

Anyone ever posted for trading on CL? You know jam for jam or jelly for jelly. I mean how much jelly can one eat in a year. Now if your in the Syracuse, area and I've got currants we can talk a deal. I'm sure there'll be more than I can use. Good lord willing I'll have plenty of currants, gooseberrys and raspberries.

I don't have apples or fruit trees so maybe we can trade?

you guys make me want to start canning.... it's a very good idea! i guess all this modern crap has just caught up to us and it's really weird. canning used to be so much more common.

Try it, you might like it! I stumbled upon this thread last month and decided to try it. I didn't have a garden this year so I do have to buy produce and didn't can a lot, but I did makes some jellies and made peach jam with peaches on sale at the store. Delish!! My next goal is to do chicken broth, soups, stews, and sauce.

If you don't want to pickle your green tomatoes they are very tasty fried. Slice about a half inch think, dredge in flour, cornmeal or whatever other batter you might like and pan fry them in shallow oil. They make a good BLT fried up that way.
