What are you canning now?

What a wonderful jar find!

I have a question about jars...I purchased 5 dozen jars, in boxes, from the lady down the street. When I started going through one of the boxes the other day to can pears, I found a "square" bottom mason jar. It has a 7 on the bottom and the glass has imperfections in it. I'm assuming that I shouldn't use it to can. Is that correct? It will be cute for a candy jar on my counter top though.

Let me know what you know,
Laurel

Is it a clear jar. I was at an auction once where there were some jars, and it seems
to me someone said you should always look on the bottoms of jars for a number.
I really don't know why. Maybe google would know.

By imperfections do you mean bubbles? Bubbles are fine. I have many square jars and prefer them over the round ones. Do you have a picture of it? Does it have a brand name on it? If the glass is thick and the mouth doesn't have any chips or cracks and is smooth I will use it. I am not picky about my jars. Especially when I can as much as I do!

I FINALLY FINISHED ALL 633 PAGES !!! And will probably finish my coop except for painting tomorrow. Can life get any better? Well yes, my garden could already be in and producing so I could be canning something. Ya'll are such busy people, I can't wait to join ya in the fun. Didn't do any canning at all last year and really missed it even though I've only done WB before, but I have a PC now so I'm in for the fun this year.

Do tell if you find out!

Someone had one similar to it on ebay and it was listed for $3.00 but there were no bids... Thanks for the info. I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you. We're moving this week and my computer time has taken a large dive for the time being.

I'm hoping that just below this there will be a picture attached. I can take a picture I'm just not sure I can post a picture...lol. The jar has a #7 on the bottom of it.

I'm new to canning and just want to make sure I don't blow a jar up. Do you can with these even in a pressure canner? That is my next big step.

I would have no problem canning in that! it is from 1923-1933 but it great condition. Most of my jars are pre WWII and I haven't had a problem. The ones you have to worry about pressure canning with are the blue ones.

here is a similar pic - only filled with peaches.
