What are you cooking on New Year's Day?

Quote:
I know black-eyed peas for good luck (and no laundry because that is supposed to bring bad luck)....thinking of either a pork roast or ribs and sweet corn bread, maybe a broccoli salad...

But I am one of those people who likes to order last at a restaurant because I want to hear what everyone else is eating.....and so it goes with my cooking....

Those ribs I have were bought on sale and frozen last July. But I saw sweet potatoes, and now I'm adding them to the menu! A baked or nuked "sweetater" with butter, salt and pepper is mighty close to the top of my favorite food list! Oh yes, a bottle of champagne left over from my sister's wedding in June. That'll be just for me- DH LOVES his Bud!

And I forgot dessert- I have some apples and cranberries, so maybe a rustic tart. I love to hear what other folks are making, too. Inspires me. If there's a thread about food, I'm bound to be it in eventually!

We always get together with a bunch of close friends and have crepes and waffles and mimosas and anything else left over from the party the night before. Somebody might get sent on a pizza run later in the day (the one thing I hate about living out in the country--no pizza delivery!) or we might just scrounge around. It's a day to veg out and hang out.

Black eyed peas and rice, collards, corn bread, pork roast with 'kraut, baked sweet potatoes served in the jacket with butter.

Mmmm, Mmmm, Good menu.

I cooked down my Christmas ham bone and cooked a bean soup for today, lots of different dry beans, onions, garlic, tomtoes, ham slivers, corn bread and butter.

What's this about no laundry? Does that mean I need to get off this infernal machine and do the wash TODAY???

Pork roast in the crock pot with a quart of homemade spaghetti sauce to cook it with.
Black-eyed peas & spinach.
Yeast rolls with an herbed cream cheese spread I make.
Cornbread for the purists who can't eat beans without cornbread.

Dessert is leftover choc chip cookies, pralined pecans, choc covered peanut clusters.

Toasting in the New Year with cheap champagne (adults) and sparkling grape juice (teens).

Leftovers will be munched on all day tomorrow, since I ALWAYS cook to have leftovers.
