Being from Florida I enjoy Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, especially her descriptions of life in the early days here. My favorite book of hers is titled Jacob's Ladder, which follows the life of a young couple trying to make a start in their life. They journey to a variety of settings and attempt a number of different jobs all around Florida.
