what are you scared of?

I am afraid of pain. Like uncontrollable/inescapable pain. I have fibro/polymyalgia and arthritis but not that kind of pain. Like, afraid of the thought of being on fire. I have nerve damage in my right leg. When that happened I prayed for death. I was alone, paralyzed by the nerve and the pain. I am afraid of drowning/suffocating. I am afraid of fear quite literally lol. Not spooky movie fear...terror. A kind of agoraphobia.

I'm afraid of certain technologies. I'm scared of artificial intelligence, and the concept of "merging with machines". Some have suggested that merging is the only way to avoid getting wiped out by an AI, but in my view, they are both equally bad. I guess I'm still optimistic that humans won't be able to create artificial general intelligence, but even if AGI is never developed, I think that the existential threat that some technologies post to humanity is still prevalent in many ways.
See this paper for an example: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1709.01149.pdf
Here is another good paper: https://nickbostrom.com/papers/vulnerable.pdf

Let the AI legions come out here, we'll see how well they do. Probably rust or get stuck, lost or destroyed by enraged squirrels before they wander into range of my very much analog shotgun. The only folks that need fear AI live in cities and spend far too much time online

After reading through all these threads, I'm feeling scared of a lot of things right now. haha.

I think antibiotic resistant bacteria are pretty scary, as well as current or possibly yet unknown diseases that could be spread by ticks or mosquitos.
I reckon resistance to antibiotics is more of an economic thing. When the number of people dying from infections start affecting profits, then they will develop a new drug or treatment. It all about debits, credits and bottom lines now.
