WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? WHAT DID YOU JUST RECEIVE?

So glad I found this thread! I ordered baby chicks from a hatchery two weeks ago, and they will ship on Monday 6/23! I'm getting more and more anxious the closer it gets! I'll be a first time chicken mom so I'm nervous and excited all at once. We can have up to 10 hens in the city, but we decided to start small with 5. I ordered 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 SLW, and 1 Easter Egger. Just being here at BYC I have already learned chicken math and I have a feeling we might find our way to 10 hens before too long!

But I think 5 will be a nice way to get started. Hopefully they all arrive save and sound!

Question about contacting the post office -- this might seem like a silly question, but I don't think I've ever had a reason to call before -- do I just call the regular post office phone line, or is there someone in particular I need to speak to about the chicks arriving? I definitely don't want the chicks going out in the mail truck, as we sometimes don't get our mail until late in the day (I'm assuming the last thing the mail carrier wants to deal with is a box of chicks so they'd probably never end up on the truck, but I don't want to take any chances)

Hey Gretabee: I think I've already welcomed you, but always worth a second round!

and the thread! You can Google your USPS and get the phone number by zip code. Or you can simple talk to your delivery person when they come to your box (if you're around and see/can catch them) I gave mine a little note with my name, address and phone # (but called them the morning they arrived before they had a chance to call me hehehe

) Or you can drive to the PO and talk to the postmaster/mistress. There are many options available

Congrats on your soon to be chick ownership! Hope it all works out well!

Latestarter, thank you for the warm welcome! This place is great. :) Thanks for the P.O. tips. I think I'll stop by or give them a call in the next few days.

] my calls came in!!! Had one Doa. But they had sent a extra so it's all good. So I got 5 grey, seven white, two pastels (woohoo), and one black bibbed . For the price I couldn't have done any better . I had gotten no updates on tracking grrrr. I checked at 6:15 and figured well heck guess hubby is picking up in Reno. Then at 6:25 got a call from my local PO they had my birds so I threw cloths on and ran out the door didn't even brush my hair lol.

where did you get your calls? did you have a good experience with whoever you bought from? i have been looking everywhere for calls and would love to have some

WOW! Are YOU OK? never mind the chicks OR the dog! How are YOU? And just curious, but why did you bring the dog with you to pick up chicks? I hope your JG is a pullet and lives a long healthy life!

Normally Mr. Bones is okay. I brought him because I knew he couldn't get into the sealed box and it was only 6 blocks from my house. I guess the wild chirping from the chicks after the accident upset him and he got a piece of the tape loose and got his head in. Chihuahuas are Ratters and maybe his instincts to kill came out, I don't know. He was very upset all day long, as I was. The chicks are adorable and very very friendly. They will walk right into my hand, which is way different from the first batch I got. Those still run from me. And my Saturn is Totaled. So that is upsetting, but we are all okay, except for the poor Jersey Giant that was murdered.

Hello, Welcome. The post office here in Sparks called me as soon as the chicks arrived. You can call your post office to find out what they do, But I imagine that they probably do the same thing. Call them though, just to be sure

Oops I did it again....stopped by the feed store and they had discounted chicks. Picked up 1 Khaki Campbell duck and two Bronze Breasted Turkeys!

I was thinking about going to my local feed store and picking up a baby chick to replace the one that was murdered. Might cheer me up. But I hear that feed stores like to sell roosters as pullets. What do you all think?

No will power huh?

A recent stop at the feed store with my almost 4 year old granddaughter and she looks at all the baby chicks in the brooder. She says..."Grandma, I want all of them". She may have to stay home next time before I can't resist those blue eyes and bright smiles she throws at me.

Absolutely none what so ever! LOL. I was only able to resist before because they claimed they were not getting anymore in this year. This is why I went to this store in order to get my feed, avoiding the babies! Well...that did not work because they got a "surprise" order in according to the worker their. I have no turkeys and just had to get one rare duck! I was forced! lol
