After buying 16 chicks of various types last year, we have decided to add to our flock this year with started pullets from Moyers Hatchery in PA. http://www.moyerschicks.com/
We are scheduled to pick up 8 - 17 week old pullets in June. They are a hybrid cross between a White Rock egg-layer type female and a Rhode Island Red male. They will produce eggs a few weeks after you pick them up and adjust to their new environment and should be producing 270-300 eggs by 72 weeks of age.
If these work out, we'll get more next year.

Those must be like the golden comets and red star, the only difference is that when they do those breeds they use red females to a white rooster. I may try it myself next year where I have 2 red hens and a Delaware male. Just to see if that would work. Our old smarty was one of these hybrids, and she laid 1 egg every day. One of the eggs that she laid was a triple yolk. Very well known for the double yolks though.Even as bad off as she was when she died, she laid an egg just about 1 hour before passing on. We had a neighbors dog get a hold of her.
