WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? WHAT DID YOU JUST RECEIVE?

From Hardin Poultry / Heirloom Orpington's due to arrive April. These are my first chicks ever. I researched breeds, breeders and arms full of every book from the library on chickens. And of course BYC among many other web sites. Gathered supplies for the first aid kit, teat cages, containers and such.. Shed is on order from the family nearby 10x12 lean roof I plan to customize and divide to have storage on one side. And I started building the brooder today it's 3x5x24 high so they can have room to grow. Front will be plexiglass so we can watch chicken TV. Also plan to use it in case a chicken needs its own space.
Since it's our first order these were the least expensive of the colors they had. Three each of the Black, White, Cuckoo, and The Lavender Cuckoo. I'm slowly convincing my husband how important keeping a Roo is and to have more chicks later if we want. He's a softy for animals so we will see. Lucky we live rural.
No turning back now. So nervous but prepared. Hope all goes well. Thanks everyone for the tons of info on BYC!!!:D

Give that weak baby a bit of sugar water ..just a little bit ..it will get her energized and eating
Awww, I wish that worked for us, but it did no good for this little one.

Sorry about your dead babies. I didn't have any issues with McMurray except they arrived early and I wasn't ready for them. I got 28 and they all made it. I have had some pasty butt and am watching for more, but they are all active and eating and drinking.
I don't have issues with McMurray, more so with USPS, cause they were late. I just went and checked on them all, and they are all sprawled out and laying down to sleep. I did just looking in see two that that have a tiny amount of poop on their rears so I will have to clean them up. Hate sticking my hands in there anymore and stressing everyone out right now, but....no one can rest with poop on the bum!

I'm going to enlist my kids and take them all out one by one to make sure we have everyone cleaned up. With 28 it's hard to make sure I've checked them all.

Girl, tell me about it! I told my husband today, at one point, I felt very overwhelmed cause I had like 6 butts to wash and it was hard to figure out who was who walking away and coming back. I ended up using a small basket. I just looked at their bums if they had a dirty one I would pop them in the little basket, and then I took them one by one to wash up and left the others under light while they waited for their turn. Im putting a little Vaseline on their rears to help the poop not stick go badly, thought I would share that, it may make your clean up more swifter! Just take a qtip and apply it around the vent. GL! I will be back in a jiffy, I have to do the same! haha

i received my order from cackle hatchery last friday. I WILL NEVER ORDER FROM THEM AGAIN. Out of 50 cornish cross chicks, 25 cinnamon queens, 25 mixed heavy layers, 2 easter egger roos, and 3 cinnamon queen roos i have lost almost half of the cornish cross chicks 5 or 6 of the cinns 2 of the mixed heavy layers and the worst of all 1 of my cinn roos. i dont know if they got too stressed during shipment or if they are just a very weak bloodline in the cornish. the amount of the others i lost was bad but not ridiculous but the cornish death rate was ridiculous i think i will order from someone else in the future.

I am waiting on 42 from McMurray. They will be here April 7th. But I PLACED the order October 25th, so I've already been waiting a LONG time for these babies! Talk about BUILDING ANTICIPATION!
