WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? WHAT DID YOU JUST RECEIVE?

Darn. I had a bunch of you quoted, and it seems to have lost the quotes.
Question about "pasty butt". Is it always pasty butt if there is poop around their vent or is it sometimes just a dirty butt? My mom says she has never had a case of pasty butt, but I know I have seen some poop on her chicks. I'm just wondering if there is a difference. I don't want to over-obsess about cleaning them up if there is some amount of poop that is okay. Does that question make any sense? lol

I really just make sure their vents are clear. Pasty butt can block the vent ..I just take warm water with my fingers and wet the vent until it comes off. I don't pull the poo off the rest of their butts I feel it's too traumatic. Pasty butt can be fatal. It goes away in a couple of weeks. My experience.

Ah, chicken mail! Good time of year.

I'm waiting on:

5 more silkies (blue, buff, and white).
4 buff orpingtons
2 golden laced wyandottes
3 khaki campbell (ducks)
4 broad breasted bronze (turkeys)

The silkies and ducks should be coming in this weekend. Work to do!

"pasty butt" and ... "poop butt" ...

Two different things, IMO. I'm no expert, but I think they can be a bit messy without it being the dreaded "pasty butt". Just a little work to keep em clear is all it takes!

Thanks for the clarification. Those were my thoughts as well. I'm a little bit of a perfectionist, and I don't want to obsess over this detail - just keep them safe and clear.

How often do you need to worry about dead babies during shipping?! I am scared now :(

I have had 6 mailed shipments over the years and have had a doa(s) in every box. Usually it was weather related or delivery delays. Different hatcheries too. Even when shipped with heat packs and grow gel. I don't know if this is typical or not.

This morning I went through and just checked vents. I have two that are very stand offish and they took off. It got me laughing cause I got through every bird and it came down to the two of them and they were chirping like it was the end. Im sure that is what they thought but I just felt so bad for them. Im glad I did get them though, both were pretty blocked. I fed them all scrabbled eggs after we were done, as my little thank you to them all. I hope today we are all outta the woods and we have a smoother day. Where is Jess's chick pic's this morning???
