I know how you feel. I don't get my 11 until april 30. 3 white leghorn, 3 easter eggers, and 5 Barred rock. I am so excited the I can hardly think of anything else. I have even been dreaming about it .... isn't that pathetic

Not pathetic at all... unless I'm pathetic too!! lol! I've been dreaming about chickens for weeks! They have a tendency to take over your brain!

I agree too! I get mine Tuesday and I had a dream last night I got them too early and kept forgetting things in the brooder like the heat lamp and water. Oh no! I'm sure I'll be much better prepared than that dream since my brooder is all set up!

I am waiting on my order from Welp's due to hatch April 14th. I ordered 11 Blue Wyandotte pullets, 5 B Wyandotte straight runs, 6 Partridge Rock pullets, 2 Roos, 6 Gold Laced Wyandotte pullets and 2 roos, 6 Silver laced Wyandottes pullets, 2 roos, 5 Barred Giant Cochin( for a friend)
We also have 12 Barr Rocks, 6 gold comets, 6 Tetra Tints from TSC that are 3-4 weeks. Along with 5 Assorted Bantams (had 6 one died) that my daughter had to have..of course it was her favorite that died.
Brooders in the living room. I am afraid I am now a chicken addict! And I have spread the virius to my boyfriend. He stops at all the TSC to see what they have different and now the local feed store has their order in and we just have to stop there too.

So how do the hatcheries mark the different breeds? Do they mark the different ones? Do they mark the sexes? I am real worried as after I ordered I found that Welp will probably ship from Privett's hatches.. I had looked at Murray McMurray, Cackle and a few others but Welp really was the only one that was going to have most of what I wanted on the same hatch date.

Our order from McMurray came with 3 marked chicks (extra roosters I believe). Otherwise they weren't marked at all and we've had to compare them to chick pictures of the various breeds. Some of them were really easy and a few (Welsummers and Speckled Sussex) are pretty much impossible to tell apart right now.

One of the marked chicks (Blue Andalusian) with a Black Langshan and a Barred Rock.

Yay!

I dropped by the local tractor supply today to grab a new thermometer for my incubator, low and behold they had some new chicks in. However when I started asking what breed they were the man shrugged his shoulders and muttered under his breath that they were mutts. $2 each for mixed breed babies. I never thunk it not even for the life of me that I would see mix breeds in tractor supply. So when I started asking more and more questions. He was embarrassed you could tell. But he said there was no guarantees on the chicks as to what was in them, all that he knew was that all were white.

I walked out laughing all the way.

These did not come from their normal supplier when I asked where they came from the man got all red in the face and pointed down the road and said a few miles that way.

Oh no that is what I was worried would happen! Guess I still have time to look at pictures so I can sort out my friends birds( The barred Cochins) The 5 Blue Wyandottes she wanted maybe a bit more difficult..I ordered 5 straight runs and 5(6?) pullets and she ordered 5 pullets :S
