My favorite in-town hen, Noodle, would perch on the doorsill and demand petting and attention when I was feeding and watering. She was the sweetest thing.
That was, until she went broody and, because she had no fear of me, turned into a vicious, biting, nest-defending monster to the point that she scared everyone else in the family off trying to collect eggs. GOOD mamma!
She actually managed to hide an egg and hatch a chick, who went to be junior rooster in a friend's flock.
Noodle was never as friendly again after her broody experience, but I when the country chickens arrive I will name another Dark Brahma hen "Noodle" in her honor.
