My MIL is in her late 40s and doesn't have a dime to her name...any money she has goes to gambling or cigarettes. She's thinking "I'll just mooch off my kids or anyone else that will let me."

I already told my husband's sisters that she's their responsibility b/c if she moves in with DH I'm moving out!

Oh man, I am going to lift prayers thanking God for the blessing of not being charged for electric, for what some of you pay. Our electric runs from $65 (this months bill) to $118 (the ones I freak out on).

We own our home, so that is a blessing too. If I got rid of Dish Network, Netflix, Cell Phones and Internet. We would be under $500.

Oh and just so NO to credit cards. If we don't have the cash, we don't buy it or need it.

Our Chicken pay for their own food. What we make off egg sales go right back into the feed bill. Too bad the cats and dogs don't understand that concept. LOL!

Well I was curious about how much the cost of living differs from state to state, and was going to post my monthly budget breakdown for the sake of know how different the cost of living can be, but I saw that someone was offended that people would post personal info, so I guess I won't

But it would be interesting to know

Now that Social Security is being considered for the scrap heap I am a little concerned about retirement. We have a 401K which has increased from contributions but hasn't earned much interest in the past few years. We were hoping our house would have some equity that we could get through selling it. That's beginning to look less and less likely. Country property is going down faster than all the other properties. If gas spikes and doesn't come down much, it will lower country values even more.

I don't know how you could teach frugality. It seems to me that it's something you learn from your parents or having it forced on you. I don't know where you learn it from. I know I got an F in it though. I guess we'll just go live in the retirement tent cities with the other people that were hoping some SS would still be there.

It's not always as great as it seems! We are in this bracket, b/c we live in a high COLA area and also own a rental house in another state. We do have more than enough, but we aren't living like crazy, either!
