What are your Spring 2021 hatching plans?

You are all inspiring me to hatch chicks instead of purchasing them from a hatchery this year. The Harris incubator with the built in candler looks ideal. The question is, if I hatch more than we "need", would we be able to find homes for the chicks?

Well it should be easy if you sell them as chicks, but it really depends on your location. Start checking Craigslist in your area if anyone is doing anything similar to your plans.

I'm not selling my chicks I have right now. I'll probably cull the ones I don't want when there sexable or as adults.

I really want/need 3 or 4 more chickens. Max number I have room for is 8. I would love to hatch a couple, to witness it, but don't have a way to deal with cockerels. (Had to cull two last summer. DH will be upset if we have that issue again.) So I'm hoping one of my girls goes broody and I can sneak a couple BO pullet chicks from TSC under her. No guarantees of girls, but maybe if I get there the day they arrive, the workers won't have mixed them up.

I'm glad I have some self control, once I started hatching in Dec. and did 2 hatches, I wanted to keep going on since I had more eggs. But my partner suggested your gonna be overwhelmed by having soo many chicks to care for, let alone the space for them. That comment snapped me out of my hatching thoughts. So yesterday I officially cleaned out the incubator and stored it away. :lau
