My Flock of Turkeys have been laying very sporadically in the past year. Before this year my birds have always laid from November to June, but this year has been very different. This year my 20 hens didn't lay until November, which is normal, but they only laid about 1-2 eggs a day until late March. During this time my flock usually laid 6-10 eggs a day. After March my turkeys upgraded to 4-6 eggs a day up until today. In addition, during this time a few of my hens were given hatched chicks to raise.
I was just wondering if my flock is strange or if it is usual for turkeys to be this sporadic of layers.
Please let me know your flock's laying season compare to my odd flock's.

In the northern states and in natural conditions (no supplemental lighting) it is normal for turkey hens to start laying in the spring (mid March) and if not allowed to set and raise a brood to continue laying into October with a slow down during the hottest months.

Providing supplemental lighting can throw them off.

I start adding supplemental light at night late Dec. They start laying in early/mid Jan and go til Sept. Peak is April/ May with slowing in mid June/ July. I pull all eggs and incubate and don't give hens chicks back.

I know it's late in the year but I am looking for eggs to hatch. Do you have any for sale now. I have a small flock of chickens and would like to start some turkey.
