Hello all,
Yesterday in the afternoon something got into the barn where my chickens stay and killed 2 hens and the rooster was taken. The hens had some scratches on their undersides and some knaw marks on the thighs and neck. Overall, no major incisions.
I was able to find what was left of the rooster about 200-300 yards away in a grass field clearing, far away from the barn and the house. All that I could find was just the foot and a lot of feathers. Curiously, there were no rooster feathers anywhere near the coop/barn, so whatever grabbed him carried him a long ways before eating him.
The barn is relatively hard to enter. There is a door that is shut with a bungie cord, but I suppose a critter could sneak in and out through small cracks somewhere.
Does anybody have any guesses what attacked my chickens? I would like to reinforce my building and any guesses on what got in may help.
Thanks!
Edit - I guess it would help to know I'm in the midwest on a farm. Lots of wildlife is out and about.
