I'm looking to get a automatic coop door opener this fall
Does anyone know which one would be best?
I want to be able to set the time that it will open and close, not just sunset/sunrise..
Will it do okay during a cold winter? (sometimes below 0° f) Can it freeze shut? If so, how would I prevent it from freezing?
Is it possible to get a solar powered one?

I was looking online, and found this omlet automatic door opener: https://www.omlet.us/shop/chicken_k...P_AcU2zoa-wQsrsiL-_u5D9BQvEiGXoBoCTFcQAvD_BwE
Has anyone tried it? Do you think it's reliable? Will it work for a homemade wood coop?

Thanks in advance for any help ❤️

Been using the Ador1 for a year now and couldn't be happier with it.
I don't have experience with that door. I like how it opens sideways.

I have the Ador1. I LOVE it! It closes in such a way that predators can't open it, and it's pretty easy to program. Also, customer service has been great for me!
Hmm. sounds like the Ador1 is a popular choice.

Do ya'll mind linking it?
And if possible, could you take a video/picture of what it looks like?

thanks!

This is it ...... Ador1

Pricey compared to some but well worth it in the long run.
Thank you! Looks like that may be our final choice. I'm actually interested in one that will work good in the long run because we are planning to keep chickens for decades more - God willing.
We have lots of chickens right now and I don't want any issues with predators, like I've had in the passed.

I read the description, and it says it will open on it's own in the morning. Is there a way to set a time?
edit: I just double checked and it actually says that you can set the time yourself.

I have a few questions for @45lk9p459gm-w and @Aunt Angus :

Have you needed to do ANYTHING to maintain the coop door? Do you need to replace batter? (If so, how often?) Does it allow your biggest chickens to get through it comfortably?
The battery is supposed to last one year if you have the door set to cycle open and close once in a 24 hours period. I haven't changed the battery yet though. I usually change all batteries in January every year, so I'm hoping the original one will last until then.

As far as maintenance goes .... I just check the bottom runner of the door every morning to make sure there isn't any trash in it that might make it not shut completely. The bottom part of the door frame is "U" shaped and the door goes down inside it.

It should accommodate large chickens. I have leghorn mix and they go through two at a time. I think they give you a size recommendation on the web site. They do have a larger door for turkeys.

So what kind of batteries does it need?
