What best for digging protection? Dig Defence?

Awesome, thank you. This looks a lot easier than having to run wire under the run.
Have you lost anything yet or has it been a pretty solid deterrent ?

Not the person you were asking, but a non-buried apron is very common, at least among the people here on Backyard Chickens. I would not consider it risky at all.

My apron is 2' wide, on top of the ground, covered with gravel. To deter snakes, my run also has a hardware cloth bottom, covered with a layer of gravel and then several inches of sand.

HC on bottom/'floor' of run is not a good idea anyway, IMO.

We have a 10x20 dog pen for a run. We plan on using hardware cloth on the top and around the ground level to prevent raccoons reaching in and grabbing a chicken.

Now we need to do something to protect from animals digging into the run.
