My favorite so far is Durgin and Crowell, but the generic brown bag from the feed store are ok, TSC is expensive considering how much smaller they are. This time all thatni could get was a Canadian brand that says “wood shavings” they were almost wood chips, they had an unpleasant odor to them i suspect was mixed hardwood. I had taken for granted how much odor control was gotten from the pine shavings, I certainly appreciate good shavings more than ever before. These are as about as absorbent as wax and after one night the smell was unbelievable.

I use the coarse shavings (white bag) from TSC. I’ve tried other brands, but have found their shavings to be the best quality so far (absorbent, low dust, pleasant odor). I usually wait until they are on sale, then stock up. Another local feed store has brown bags of shavings that are almost as good, but they aren’t as compressed, so a similar sized bag doesn’t have nearly as much.

I will say that I haven’t put too much effort into looking elsewhere though as my small flock doesn’t go through them overly quickly. Do you have any friends with horses? I feel like horse folks would be the best ones to ask as they buy it by the truck load and are pretty picky about quality since horses are such sensitive beasts!
