I dont know how well the hatcheries do at keeping lines pure but whatever he is he was a hatchery chick about a year and a half ago! So I am guessing he is not a mutt and dont know whether they do crosses at the hatcheries or not! I am so anxious to see what we get with the crosses! I am not seriously into any one breed but love the eggs that I get and sittin and watchin him and the girls in the yard! I will keep you posted on what I get in the spring!

His feathers have more of a barred appearance than cuckoo. I'd say hes a black sex link rooster. Most hatcheries don't sell golden cuckoo marans either. He is very handsome!

that is what i am trying to find out do hatcheries sell black sex link chickens! he was given to me by a friend at about 5 to 8 months old because the lady said he was mean and chased her dog but I have never had any problem with him! I got the best end of the deal by the way! I think the dog chased him and he just defended himself and the hens he was with! She also had too many roosters! she had like 40 chickens with about `10 of them roos! She had never had chickens before! She also said he chased her grandson but he has never offered to chase or attack me or the dog or even kids and wife! FYI Wife is afraid of all chickens and would run if he looked at her wrong!!

He just doesnt appear like most of the black sex link birds either! I really need to get a really clear picture of him!
