I have some 5.5 week old chickens. I don't know any of their breeds or genders. Any guesses? Sorry the color is a little off, its because of the red light. Thank you so much!

My cousin was a student teacher in a 5th grade classroom. They hatched the chickens for a science unit in the class. I adopted them after the class didn't need them anymore - so I have no idea!

Thanks! Bummer - I figured the 2nd was a cockerel but I was hoping the third one was a pullet, it has no comb (yet). How can you tell? I have so much to learn!

In the picture, the 3rd chick looks to have rather large, red wattles. Is this true...if so, that's why he looks like a roo.

Yes, he has large red wattles. I guess he'll just be a rooster named Violet! Bummer, I'd love to keep him, but in Portland we can't have roosters. I thought for sure it'd be a pullet, it was the smallest one until about a week ago!

The chest is also broad and wide in addition to the large wattles. My EE boy was the smallest until he hit 8 weeks or so.

Boys generally feather in slower. Not always, but a lot of the times they will. They are also more outgoing and therefore usually the favourites :/
