What breed are my chickens?

I just adopted 2 pullets and 1 cockerel from this lady on Craigslist. She advertised them as 4 month old silkies, when I saw them they were obviously not silkies. They do look like a mix of things but I’m really not sure. I’m assuming they’re all from the same hatch...

This is my first time raising chickens so I’m new to all the different breeds there are. Any help would be appreciated!

If you got them from someone on Craigslist they are probably mix breed
Not always true.. I've sold ALL my pure bred birds on CL. I also see lots of folks giving their best guess that truly don't know or are misinformed. As well as plenty of folks selling their birds AS crosses. But always good to be aware of what you are looking for and at, and use EXTREME discernment. There's shady and also honest folks using most mediums of exposure these days.

Hi there, welcome to BYC! :frow

The good news is they do look like they are a lovely Barnyard Cross trio.

They may or may not have any Silky genes in them. Also, since crosses even if from same hatch, maybe less inbred in future generations! Straight combs, red lobes, feathered legs, NO crest, and NO beards.. How many toes? Any of them sporting 5?

Did you pay for these birds you adopted or were they given away for free?

Were you hoping for Silkies?

If that seller didn't indicate they were crosses then that's pure deception. I'd have walked.. no RAN away the instant I realized I was being mislead.

I'm sorry for this mishap on your first chicken adventure.. Mixed breeds CAN be some of the best and I hope these bring you a wonderful adventure full of hybrid type vigor! :wee

I dislike dishonest people. But I do love a good mystery! :pop

FWIW, stated age doesn't look to far off. :)

Thank you!! I actually was looking for a starter coop and these chickens came with it, so I wasn’t too bummed that they weren’t silkies. Also for the price they were asking I should’ve known they might’ve not been full bred silkies 😂. They are a lovely looking trio, so I was happy to take them in as a starter flock.
They all have 4 toes. I’m definitely not opposed to hybrids and mysteries 😆 . I just got 11 chicks -red sexlinks, amberlinks, and an Easter egger! They are over 1 week old now and just the most fun to have around the house.
Thank you for your the helpful info and your positivity!
