What breed are these grey hens?

Where might I go to find a list of respectable true breeds, not hybrids, not mutts, birds that will breed true, and honorable breeders, not, er, shall we say, "creative" ones?

depends on what your looking for. Every true, recognized, breed will have an associative 'Club' website(s). They will have a list of breeders associated to their club and that breed.

I agree with @Frazzemrat1. Almost all breeds will have a club and that club a website or facebook page. That's a good place to start looking. If you can get a hold of an APA yearbook they are full of breeder advertisements. Also the Poultry Press Newspaper is full of advertisements as well. www.poultryshowcentral.com also has listings for breeders.

View attachment 1833120 I got them from Hoover's Hatchery as "assorted rare breeds". I thought they were Sapphire Olive Eggers but they started laying these bluish green eggs (look almost exactly like my Ameraucanas eggs). Could they be Prarie Bluebell Eggers? Some have Tufts on their heads, could they be different breeds?View attachment 1833125 View attachment 1833126 View attachment 1833127
They look like sapphire olive eggers to me and at least in that lighting the eggs look correct as well. Your Ameraucana are likely Easter Eggers and are probably laying a more green tinted egg than a true Ameraucana would.

Hmmm, that's the point. I DON'T know what's out there so I don't know where to start. Let's see.... a few weeks ago I saw a thread here on BYC listing a whole bunch of various breeds ... how do I find that again? Actually maybe it was more like a topic, with lots of various threads, each one dedicated to a particular breed. If I could find that again I would bookmark it, then I could learn about all kinds of different breeds. That's how I learned about Welsummers, which I'd like to try next time there is room in my coop, but then I could not find my way back to that page!
