I don't care for silkies, and I think all the tophat varieties are just ugly. My turkens are not the prettiest chickens (don't tell them that-I tell them all the time what pretty girls they are, and they believe it!), but they are egg-laying factories. It only took one really tame one that was a good layer to win me over. They are now a favorite of mine along with cochin bantams.
My dad's favorite, and one he always insists on me keeping around for him, is the black australops. I can't seem to bring myself to like them. They are just boring to me. I like breeds that come in a variety of colors.
I love Turkens(don't have any...yet!) because they look like Vultures in a way. I like Vultures in general, so it goes hand in hand I think.
I'm not sure there are any breeds I don't appreciate. I'd love to try keeping the "meanies" like the Malay to see if they can be successfully habituated. I love lots of breeds with no variation in appearance because you know what your chicken will look like. I love breeds with variation because they are like a surprise. I know I sound really dorky...but I really can't think of any I don't like/want. I can think of TONS that I like/want, but that's a whole different kind of problem.
I really don't like silkies and most bantams because they are "useless" they just are there for fun and to look pretty their eggs are to small to eat and they aren't big enough for meat.
I am not wild about the buff orpingtons, just something about the way they look, too much of that buff color I guess, but I love the blue ones, the blacks are pretty too. I have a hen I am telling myself is a blue orp. Although shes probably just a mutt.
I don't care for the modern game or the turkens ~ but, the modern game I like less ~ their upright stance and lack of overall fluffiness just looks strange to me. Reminds me of a colorful, half-nekkid Big Bird. And turkens ~ well, I guess at least they don't turd down their legs to keep cool, like a vulture, but, yah ~ that pecked clean look just does nothing for me. ( I also really dislike the look of those hairless yapper rat dogs ~ look like some sort of strange science experiment , if you ask me.) {;>)=
